Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Fishing Info

Find answers to common questions about our Port Washington salmon charters, including pricing, licenses, and what to bring, so you can prepare for your Lake Michigan trip with confidence.

What is the best time of year for a fishing charter in Port Washington?

The peak season for Lake Michigan fishing charters runs from May 1st through October 1st. Early season typically sees high numbers of Coho Salmon, while the summer months are prime for trophy King Salmon and Steelhead. Since fish move based on water temperatures, our trolling techniques adapt throughout the season to keep you on the most active schools.

What is included in a Livin’ the Dream Fishing Charters trip?

Every excursion with Livin’ the Dream Fishing Charters includes the use of our 33-foot Trojan boat, fuel, and all professional-grade fishing equipment. We provide high-quality rods, reels, and specialized trolling tackle. You also benefit from the expertise of Captain Glenn and First Mate Mike, who handle all the gear and help you land your catch.

Do I need to bring my own fishing gear or tackle?

No, you do not need to bring any fishing equipment. We provide everything necessary for a successful day of Port Washington salmon fishing. However, you are responsible for bringing your own food, drinks, and appropriate clothing for the lake's changing weather conditions.

Are guests required to have a fishing license?

Yes. Every guest must have a valid Wisconsin state fishing license and a Great Lakes salmon and trout stamp. These must be purchased prior to arrival at the Port Washington Marina. We recommend buying them online through the Wisconsin DNR website to ensure you are ready to go at your scheduled start time.

Where do we meet for our Port Washington charter fishing trip?

All trips depart from our permanent slip at the Port Washington Marina, located at 106 Lake Street, Port Washington, WI 53074. We recommend arriving a few minutes early so we can go over safety details and head out to the fishing grounds promptly.

What is your cancellation policy for Lake Michigan guided trips?

We maintain a 14-day cancellation policy. To be eligible for a refund, you must notify us at least two weeks prior to your scheduled trip. This allows us the opportunity to fill the opening in our calendar during our busy peak season.

What should I wear for my Lake Michigan fishing excursion?

Even during the summer, it can be significantly cooler on the water than on land. We suggest dressing in layers and wearing soft-soled shoes for safety on the deck. Bringing sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen is also highly recommended for a comfortable day under the sun.
