Meet Captain Glenn Elertson

Three Decades of Local Expertise and Master Captain Leadership

Captain Glenn Elertson brings over 30 years of local knowledge and on-the-water expertise to every outing with Livin’ the Dream Fishing Charters. As a USCG Master Captain, his deep connection to Lake Michigan was forged through decades of navigating the unique currents and shifting thermal layers off the coast of Port Washington. His approach to guiding is grounded in a genuine passion for the Great Lakes fishery, ensuring that every person who steps on his deck benefits from a lifetime of observations and successful patterns. For Glenn, a day on the lake is about more than just a tally of fish; it is about sharing the intricacies of the water with others.

Before transitioning into full-time guiding, Glenn served his community as a professional firefighter and paramedic. This background in public service naturally translates into a leadership style defined by patience, safety, and a calm demeanor. He understands that for many guests, a charter is a special occasion, and he takes pride in maintaining a relaxed environment where everyone feels at ease. Whether he is explaining the mechanics of a downrigger or sharing a well-timed "dad joke," Glenn’s focus is always on the well-being and enjoyment of his guests, ensuring a professional atmosphere from dock to dock.

Glenn’s reputation in the Port Washington fishing community is built on consistency and a willingness to teach. He doesn't just set the lines; he enjoys helping anglers understand why a certain spoon or fly is working at a specific depth. This educational aspect has made him a favorite for those looking to improve their own skills or families wanting a knowledgeable mentor for their children’s first big-water experience. His goal is to provide a grounded, authentic experience that reflects the true character of Wisconsin’s maritime heritage, leaving guests feeling confident in their choice of a guide.

The 33-Foot Trojan Cruiser

The vessel of choice for these Lake Michigan excursions is a 33-foot Trojan cruiser, a boat renowned for its wide beam and exceptional stability in varying lake conditions. With a 13-foot width, the boat provides an expansive back deck that allows up to six guests to move freely and participate in the action without feeling crowded. The heavy hull design ensures a smooth ride even when the lake develops a chop, providing a sturdy platform for trolling. Equipped with modern navigation and sonar technology, the boat serves as a reliable mobile headquarters for tracking salmon and trout across the diverse underwater landscapes of Port Washington.
